Flower Farm
Rosehip Mini Farm’s Story: Growing flowers has been a dream for years, and during the “slowdown” of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to literally lay the groundwork and make it happen. Thanks to hundreds of hours of hard work on part of family and Rosehip staff, out little farm of about a half an acre got off the ground. Set in Rockland County, New York, we have been able to grow perennials, blooming trees and shrubs and fabulously colored foliage to supplement our events and shop. Varieties include dahlias, cosmos, zinnias, castor beans, strawflower, snap dragons, cockscomb celosia, amaranth, marigolds, peonies, Queen Anne’s lace, and much more.
Going into our fifth year, we have seen the benefits of our farm in a variety of ways. It has woven in extra love and care to our arrangements knowing our team has tended to each flower from seed to bouquet. The excitement each week in the summer and early fall getting to see what has been harvested becomes one of the highlights for our team. Below are some photos from last season and the beautiful blooms we have grown.
Our Process: Starting in late winter we begin with our seeds, which are soured from past year blooms, as well as local and distant seed farms and small Etsy seed sellers. It’s tough to narrow down our selection from hundreds of options!
After tending to the seeds for a few months they are ready to harden off and be planted outside in mid-May. Our dahlia tubers also go in at this time along with gladiolas. And then we wait! We can’t wait to see the true potential in years to come.
